Birthday Boys


     Today, 14 August, 2013, sees two former Super Eagles stars, “Austin Jay Jay’ Okocha and Samson Siasia, celebrate their birthdays. For former midfield wizard, ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha and ex-striker turned successful coach, Siasia, this day marks another milestone for them. Augustine Azuka Okocha who was born on 14 August, 1973, in Enugu, is arguably the best player to have worn the Super Eagles’ jersey. He is known for his step-overs, skill, technique, and being ‘so good that they named him twice’ (a line immortalized in a terrace chant while Okocha played for Bolton Wanderers in the English EPL). He is a dual Turkish-Nigerian citizen, having acquired Turkish citizenship and re-christened ‘Muhammet Yavuz’ while playing for Süper Lig team, Fenerbahçe, in Turkey. Okocha who has since turned a celebrity and club owner (he is the head honcho of Club 10 in Victoria Island), is a very flamboyant man who is visible in the social scene today in Nigeria. He celebrates 39(?) today.
      Samson Siasia, on the other hand, was born on August 14, 1967, in Accra, Ghana, and started playing for Nigeria as a school boy before moving up the ranks into various national teams and finally landed in the Super Eagles where he scored 13 goals from 51 international matches. He was the former coach of the Super Eagles after successfully leading the U-20 team to second place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland and the U-23 male team to silver medal at the Beijing Olympics. He is 45 years old today. Join us in wishing these big boys a very happy birthday.

  After a long, gruelling season, the world of football will now be able to kick back and enjoy a long, hot summer as the game's brightest stars head off on their holidays. STEVEN GERRARD   The season has been all over at Liverpool for nearly a month now, but it's proving a little difficult for Steven Gerrard to get out of the football mindset as he relaxed in Ibiza.  The Anfield skipper soaked up the island sun just off the Mediterranean Sea, but still felt the need to stick to some form of club uniform as he wore red shorts similar to the ones he is normally seen playing in for the Merseyside club.  Also with the England captain on the beach was recently retired and former Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher, who was more keen to stay under the shade.    Gerrard's wife, Alex Curran was also with the 33-year-old, as she relaxed with friends nearby while smoking a cigarette with blue tinted aviator sunglasses     . Boston Suspect Month Before Attack: I Know How to Build a Bomb

Just a month before three people were killed and more than 260 others injured when a pair of bombs ripped through the crowd near the finish line at the  Boston Marathon , bombing suspect  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev  bragged to his friends that he knew how to build explosives, criminal complaints against three new suspects revealed today. Buried in the footnotes of court documents filed against three friends of  Dzhokhar 's is a reference to a chilling statement one of the friends,  Azamat Tazhayakov , made to investigators in the days after the deadly attack. " Tazhayakov  also informed the FBI agents that while eating a meal with Dzhokhar and [friend Dias]  Kadyrbayev  approximately one month prior to the Marathon bombing, Dzhokhar had explained to Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov that he knew how to make a bomb," the court documents say.
