Pro-Lawan senators move to impeach Saraki
Indications emerged yesterday that Senators loyal to Senator Ahmed Lawan
have started wooing Senators supporting the President of the Senate,
Bukola Saraki, as part of efforts to impeach the nation's number three
citizen. The Senators, known as the Senate Unity Forum, based their
argument on the ongoing trial of the Senate President at the Code of
Conduct Tribunal. The group, it was gathered might have succeeded in
securing the support of 12 pro-Saraki senators, mainly the Peoples
Democratic Party members.
Investigations showed that some of the senators, who supported Lawan to become the Senate President of the 8th Assembly had allegedly met with some All Progressives Congress leaders on the need to remove Saraki. Senate spokesperson, a die-hard supporter of Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye, when contacted for comments on Thursday, did not pick his call. Similarly, efforts to get reaction of the SUF’s spokesperson, Senator Kabiru Marafa, did not see the light of the day, as calls to his mobile telephone did not go through.
