Considering the level of grief and despair thieves cause, one should say that they have not been adequately punished.
In the Middle East they cut hands of thieves off. But here in Africa and in other parts of the world they’re not.
Imagine how much grief a thief stealing high tension power lines causes. There could be hundreds of people relying on the power lines he/she attempted to steal and because of him the power was cut off, now they were unable to cook for their kids or do work that earns them a living or even sustain a persons life. All because someone who couldn’t be bothered on how he/she earned his/her money decided to climb a utility pole and steal the wiring for himself.

sentenced and executed by electrocution all in one swoop.

Just a month before three people were killed and more than 260 others injured when a pair of bombs ripped through the crowd near the finish line at the  Boston Marathon , bombing suspect  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev  bragged to his friends that he knew how to build explosives, criminal complaints against three new suspects revealed today. Buried in the footnotes of court documents filed against three friends of  Dzhokhar 's is a reference to a chilling statement one of the friends,  Azamat Tazhayakov , made to investigators in the days after the deadly attack. " Tazhayakov  also informed the FBI agents that while eating a meal with Dzhokhar and [friend Dias]  Kadyrbayev  approximately one month prior to the Marathon bombing, Dzhokhar had explained to Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov that he knew how to make a bomb," the court documents say.
