Families of the five Pakistani nationals on board an oil vessel, Mt Matrix 1, abducted last Saturday at 40 nautical miles off the Bayelsa coast have told the management of the company, Matrix Energy, in Warri, Delta State, not to pay any ransom to the abductors to get them released. They are promising to take revenge on Nigerians in their hundreds in Pakistan, if any of the victims was killed.  The abducted victims include the Captain, Chief Officer, cook and two others. They were conveying automated gasoline oil, AGO, from Lagos to Eket, when they were abducted at 9pm.  Sources said that relevant security agencies in Bayelsa State and Warri in Delta State, had been informed of the incident.  The source added  that the company had begun negotiation with the abductors, but that details of negotiations with the company on ransom were not disclosed.

Nineteen out of the nation’s 36 governors were absent when Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang-led faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum opened its secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.  The secretariat is located at Nana Close, Maitama.  Signs that things were not going to work well started manifesting when words went round that Vice President Namadi Sambo, who was supposed to be the guest of honour at the event, would not come and did not send any representatives.  The acting Sole Administrator of the faction’s secretariat, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, had told our correspondent on Tuesday that the vice president would inaugurate the secretariat.  Aside Jang, governors that were at the event, were those of Kogi, Taraba, Kaduna, Cross River, Katisina, Abia, Anambra, Delta and Ebonyi.  Others included Ondo, Benue (deputy), Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Gombe (deputy) and Bayelsa.  Others stayed away from the event. The Joint Task Force on Thursday said it had uncovered a Lebanon-based Hezbollah armoury and terror cell in Bompai, Kano State.  The force, which said it found large cache of arms and ammunition, also confirmed the arrest of three persons in connection with the armoury and the cell.  A Lebanese national currently out of the country reportedly owns the premises where the armoury and the cell were found at No 3, Gaya Road, Off Bompai Road in the ancient city.  A statement by the JTF spokesman, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said the JTF operatives, comprising officials of the 3rd Army Brigade in Kano and the State Security Service conducted the operations.  The operatives, he said, uncovered an underground bunker in the premises where large quantities of assorted weapons were hidden.  Iweha, who said the construction of the bunker was special, listed anti-tank weapons, rocket propelled guns and anti-tank/personnel mines as some of the dangerous weapons found in the premises.  He added that

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after his girlfriend claims she saw him remove their infant daughter from the freezer, where he’d placed her in an apparent attempt to stop the child’s crying. Doctors believe the child is fine and will suffer no long-term effects, but that wasn’t clear at the time. The child was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered she had a body temperature of just 84 degrees. Tyler Deutsch was arrested and charged with suspicion of attempted murder, according to Washington Fox affiliate KCPQ.  Authorities said they believe the child was in the freezer for up to one hour. It is a miracle the baby is still alive.

For most brides and grooms, deciding what to wear on the Big Day is one of the most important parts of wedding planning. But one New Zealand couple didn’t have to shop for wedding outfits — because they got married in the Unclad. Nick and Wendy Lowe were married at the Wellington Naturist Club on Saturday in a “clothing optional” wedding, reported local newspaper The Dominion Post. About half of the 120 guests were Unclad. Both clothed and Unclad photos were taken, and though guests were asked to dress for dinner, the dancing portion of the event was clothing optional.   Firefighters in eastern China have rescued an abandoned newborn baby boy lodged in a sewage pipe. The infant was stuck in a pipe directly beneath a toilet commode, state television reported, in a case which has sparked anger on social media sites.  There are frequent reports in Chinese media of babies being abandoned, often shortly after birth.  The problem is attributed variously to young mothers unaware they were pregnant, the birth of an unwanted girl in a society which puts greater value on boys or China's strict family planning rules. In the latest case the infant was found in the sewage pipe in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang on Saturday afternoon. The harrowing discovery came after residents reported the sound of a baby crying, state television said late on Monday. NELSON Mandela’s daughters are suing him for the rights to his artworks and control of his millions, it has been reported.  According to the Star on Monday, Zenani and Makaziwe Mandela intended fighting an order of Johannesburg High Court in April 2004, which gave Mandela the right to instruct Ismail Ayob, his then lawyer, to stop managing his financial, personal and legal affairs.  The order also barred Ayob from selling any of Mandela’s artworks.        The Star reported that Mandela’s current lawyer, Bally Chuene, filed an affidavit last week, in response to a lawsuit brought by the sisters, represented by Ayob.  Last month, the sisters filed papers asking for Chuene, George Bizos SC and Human Settlements Minister, Tokyo Sexwale, to remove themselves as directors and trustees of the Mandela Trust and as directors of Harmonieux and Magnifique (Pty) Ltd with immediate effect.  In his replying affidavit, Chuene reportedly said he, Bizos and Sexwale had, in 2011, refused to rele

           According to Brig Gen Olukolade, the 120 militants who were arrested were being interrogated in the custody of the Joint Task Force (JTF).  The latest arrest brought to more than 200 the number of Islamists the army says it has arrested since last week.  Defence spokesman, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, in a press statement added that the military has also recaptured five areas from the militants.  He said the Special Forces had now secured the environs of New Marte, Hausari, Krenoa, Wulgo and Chikun Ngulalo, all in Borno state, after destroying all the terrorists’ camps sited in these localities.  The statement said that the troops were already interacting with locals and citizens assuring them of their safety and freedom from the activities of insurgents.  Brigadier General Olukolade said terrorists fleeing towards Chad and Niger Republic are being contained by the Multi-National Joint Task Force in various locations at the border.  He said during the raid on terror
