The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for universities polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education was held nationwide on Saturday with notable improvements this year, except for the few discrepancies in some centers. Our reporter visited some of the centres in Ojo/Agbara area of Lagos state. There was a mild drama in one of the three centres  (Faculty of Arts with centre No 36102) within the Lagos State University, Ojo. An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, one of the paramilitary bodies deployed by JAMB to provide security for the examination, was caught while trying to send some answers to some supposed candidates in the examination halls through two cell phones.     A microchip with solutions to Mathematics (Type A), was also found on him. Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has left London where he was receiving medical treatment for Israel,  SUNDAY PUNCH  learnt on Saturday. Okorocha had left Nigeria on April 20, 2013, after he sustained a head injury in a car accident. When our correspondent made an enquiry from one of his aides on Friday it was learnt that Okorocha had left London for Israel.   Okorocha’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Ebere Uzoukwa, confirmed that the governor had left London. “He has left London and he is doing very well. He is currently in Israel,” he said. Contrary to reports of death toll of 185 lives and destruction of over 2,000 houses at Baga, Borno State, after Boko Haram gunmen and men of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTC) clashed, last week, Senator Maina Ma’aji Lawan, representing Borno North Senatorial District, declared that his two-day visit to the border town revealed 228 fresh graves, 4,000 houses leveled. Lawan made the “declaration and assessment” of the Baga carnage, Saturday. According to him, despite the widely reported carnage and destruction of Baga, there was much more to the reports on the total number of people killed and houses destroyed in the fishing and commercial town. THREE pupils, including a girl, were killed and hundreds injured on Wednesday when a building in which they were writing the West African Examination Council School Certificate examination (WASCE) collapsed on them.   The incident occurred in Alpha Academy, a private secondary school in Mararaba, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State. Some 560 candidates were writing the examination in Alpha Academy. Many of them complained of the cracks before the building came down on Wednesday.   Of the 200 injured candidates, 30 are said to be in critical condition at the CRCN Hospital, Takum, where doctors are battling to save their lives.   One of the survivors, Godiya John, 22, who sustained a spinal cord injury, was immediately referred to the National Hospital, Abuja.   Donga council chair Capt. The Northern Governors’ Forum on Thursday lamented the effect of the   Boko Haram insurgency on the North and pleaded with members of the violent Islamic sect to accept the planned amnesty for them by the Federal Government. The Chairman of the forum and Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, stated this while receiving the report of the forum’s Committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Security, in Abuja  on Thursday. Aliyu, who  said the activities of the insurgents had led to destruction of many lives and property, also advised the Federal Government to  complement the resolve of  the forum  by taking into account, the findings and recommendations of its committee.  “Members of the insurgent group are called upon for immediate ceasefire; accept the offer made by the Federal Government and come forward for dialogue and eventual submission of arms,” the governor said. A petrol tanker, belonging to the Total Petroleum caused the disaster when the vehicle stumbled while the driver of the long vehicle was making an attempt to drive pass a very narrow road in a densely populated area of Ibadan. The Fire service arrived at the spot of the incident very quickly but they claimed they do not have enough water and equipment. Residents of Wole Madariola Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos have been asking questions about what pushed Chidike Oyeka, a graduate of Madonna University, Anambra, to stab himself repeatedly thereby taking his own life. it was learnt that the Chidike on April 19, 2013, took a kitchen knife and stabbed himself repeatedly until his intestines were disembowelled.
