Pro-Lawan senators move to impeach Saraki

  Indications emerged yesterday that Senators loyal to Senator Ahmed Lawan have started wooing Senators supporting the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, as part of efforts to impeach the nation's number three citizen. The Senators, known as the Senate Unity Forum, based their argument on the ongoing trial of the Senate President at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The group, it was gathered might have succeeded in securing the support of 12 pro-Saraki senators, mainly the Peoples Democratic Party members. Investigations showed that some of the senators, who supported Lawan to become the Senate President of the 8th Assembly had allegedly met with some All Progressives Congress leaders on the need to remove Saraki. 200 Boko Haram members surrender to troops – Army

The Nigerian Army on Friday tweeted that over 200 members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have surrendered to troops. Also, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole , Maj. Gen. Yusha’u Abubakar, said after the capture of Banki, a Nigerian border town with Cameroon, on Thursday, over 200 members of the insurgency group willingly surrendered to the military. Abubakar, who spoke to journalists at about 11am on Friday, said, “I have just received information from our troops about an hour ago that over 200 Boko Haram insurgents surrendered to them.” He disclosed that what would have been a major disaster in Maiduguri was averted on Wednesday night. Switzerland opens criminal case against Blatter

  The Swiss attorney general has launched criminal proceedings against FIFA President Sepp Blatter over suspicions he violated his duties as head of football’s world governing body. Authorities said on Friday that the outgoing FIFA chief was interrogated over suspected criminal mismanagement. FIFA cancelled a news conference scheduled with Blatter without explanation on Friday, just hours before the proceedings against him were announced. Blatter was set to meet the international media at FIFA headquarters after a two-day executive committee meeting. The Swiss federal office said Blatter was interrogated after chairing the meeting. FIFA vice president Michel Platini was questioned as a witness over a “disloyal payment” of 2 million Swiss francs ($2.05m) he received from Blatter in February 2011, Swiss authorities said, according to the Associated Press news agency. Suicide Bombers Attack Mosque In Yemen, 25 Killed

Twenty-five people have been reported killed with dozens injured at a mosque in Yemen’s capital, after suicide bombers targeting shia worshipers struck on Thursday, September 24. According to witnesses, the blast took place at the Balili mosque where Houthi Shia rebels who control Sana’a go to pray. Sources say after the first blast went off inside the mosque, another suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt at the entrance of the mosque, just as worshipers rushed outside.
