How your child's teddy could trigger food poisoning: 80% of cuddly toys harbour harmful bacteria - while one in four are contaminated with faeces

Image
It has healing powers, soothing your child in their time of despair.  It accompanies your little person everywhere they go - on holiday, to the park and to bed.  But while their teddy bear may appear to be your child's best friend, the cuddly toy could pose a potential health risk.  Experts have warned 80 per cent of teddies harbour bacteria that can trigger a bout of food poisoning, while tests revealed one in four contained traces of faeces.  Research, conducted by Dettol, found 90 per cent of children regularly drop their beloved toys on the floor, where they can pick up dirt and germs.   Three out of four bears do not get washed after a child is ill, and one in five have never been washed.  Microbiologists swab-tested a variety of children's teddies and found that more than 80 per cent were contaminated with staphylococcus spp, a pathogen that can cause food poisoning.  Furthermore almost a quarter contained coliforms, indicating a possible presence of harmful organisms

Tottenham trash league leaders, 4-1

Image
Manchester City fell to their second consecutive English Premier League defeat, losing 1-4 away at Tottenham on  Saturday, September 26 tea time fixture. Despite being without captain V incent Kompany and first choice goalkeeper Joe Hart , City started strongly with Yaya Toure at the centre of action. The midfielder made the opener, stroking a ball to City record signing Kevin De Bruyne who was marginally offside. He took advantage of the referee not being able to make the call to strike a first time, low and hard past Hugo Lloris .       City were comfortably in control and should have doubled their lead two minutes later when Raheem Sterling cut inside his man to shot a low forcing Lloris into a fine save. Spurs slowly got themselves into the game as Harry Kane had two good strikes on goal, with City goalkeeper Caballero acrobatically saving the second on the 41st minute. They got their equalizer in the 44th minute thanks to an awful officiating.

Mesut Ozil: I'm not worth €50 million

Image
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil claims no footballer is worth the 50 million which the Gunners paid to sign him from Real Madrid. The Germany international became Arsenal's record signing when he joined from the Liga giants in 2013. Ozil's place as the Premier League's most expensive import has since been eclipsed by both Manchester clubs, with United spending £59.7m ( 75m) on Angel Di Maria before City splashed out a reported £54.5m ( 73m) on Kevin De Bruyne. And Ozil admits there is no top player who is worth such an astronomical fee, telling German publication Express: "No man is worth 50 million, that's why we have to be careful in the game not to lose our grip on reality." Arsenal take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League in October and Ozil accepts Pep Guardiola's side are a leading contender for the trophy. "It's clear they are one of the strongest teams in the world and can beat just about any opponent," he said. "

FIFA confirms winter 2022 World Cup

Image
FIFA has confirmed that the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar will be held in the winter, with the final scheduled for December 18. Concerns were raised about the prospect of a summer tournament when the Gulf nation was initially awarded the hosting rights, with temperatures regularly exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in July and August. FIFA agreed provisional dates for a winter tournament back in March despite some concerns over the impact of the domestic calendar in European football, especially the Premier League, which does not operate a mid-season break. And the Executive Committee ratified the decision on Friday, meaning the finals will begin on November 21 and will conclude on December 18, making it a shorter tournament than the usual 32-day programme. FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce said earlier this year: "I think it could be a tremendous World Cup because I think players will be fresher than they have ever been. "It's going to be 28 days, it

Lagos police station where every motorist is always Guity!

It was a public holiday they all looked forward to. And as the weeks faded into days, they prepared themselves, packed their bags, prepared enough edible items that could last them for the duration of their journey. Fortunately for the Ayanfes, the holiday was a Thursday, which marked the beginning of a long weekend, hence, they converted their trip from mere family treat to a vacation, which was to run from Thursday to Sunday. They had their plans well laid out and they had really prepared for it, both psychologically and financially. Eventually, the day they had all been waiting for came. At about 10am, they left their house in Orisunbare, in Shasha, Akowonjo Local Government Area of Lagos State, and were heading to a resort centre in Osun State. With a slow music in the background, the Ayanfes traded comic banters, cracked jokes and revelled in the loving atmosphere. They all appeared to be in a good mood, having been deprived of such a quality family time in th

Indications emerged yesterday that Senators loyal to Senator Ahmed Lawan have started wooing Senators supporting the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, as part of efforts to impeach the nation's number three citizen.
